In the United States of America there are a host of telecommunication companies that are well known for offering outstanding services. Sprint Nextel is one of the most reputed telecommunication companies in the country. In fact Sprint Nextel is regarded to be having the 3rd largest wireless network in US. Sprint Nextel came into existence in the year 2005 when Sprint Corporation acquired the NEXTEL Communications with an amount of about $ 35 billion. In the year 2006, Sprint Nextel formed Embark by doing a spin off to the landline telephone service providing business. During that time Sprint Nextel went on to acquire Nextel Partners by a sum of $ 6.5 billion. Nextel partners offer wireless services to the rural areas in US. The executive headquarters of Sprint Nextel is based in the city of Reston in Virginia. The engineering as well as the operational headquarters of the telecommunication giant are located in the city of Overland Park in Kansas.
Sprint Nextel was originally founded when the two telecom majors Sprint and Nextel decided to merge together. The acting chief executive officer of the company is Mr. Paul Saleh. It is estimated that the company had generated revenue of about $ 43.60 billion in the year 2006. At present about 64,200 employees work for this incredible telecommunication company. It was on 15 December 2004 that both Nextel as well as Sprint decided that they would amalgamate to form Sprint Nextel Corporation. The merger was approved by all the share holders by July 2005 and the deal finally got its much awaited approval from the federal Communications Commission and also from the justice department on 3rd August 2005.
The official formation of Sprint Nextel took place on 12th August 2005. At present Sprint Nextel offers its mobile phone service under the brands of Nextel and Sprint PCS. Sprint Nextel has even got a significant presence in the fields of long distance telecom service, landline telephone service and business telecommunications. Sprint Nextel is in fact regarded as an Internet service provider of Tier 1 grade. The company provides Internet service under the brand name of SprintLink. The company also has got substantial amount of presence in the arena of prepaid mobile service. The prepaid service offered by Sprint Nextel is done under the brand name of Boost Mobile.
The services offered by Sprint Nextel have always been in the limelights for being class apart from that offered by the rival companies. The telecommunication company has always given substantial emphasis on providing up to date technologies to its customers and thus it has successfully been able to retain its brand equity.
