In the recent years a major change in the telecommunication sector in India can be seen as more number of players have ventured into the industry. A host of mobile phone operators can be seen in India that are continuously planning strategies to grab the vast potential market in the country as well as in the regions around South East Asia. Bharti Airtel is one of the most common names in the telecom sector that have been offering excellent mobile phone and land line service. Bharti Airtel is in fact counted among the largest of all the wireless phone service providers in India.
 
 
Bharti Airtel boasts of having a huge customer base in India. The total number of subscribers of Bharti Airtel in India was recorded to be about 50 million by end of the year 2007. In terms of total revenues and subscriber base the company is even regarded to be among the fastest growing telecommunication companies in the world. Under the brand Airtel the company has positioned its service even in the rural parts of India. Bharti Airtel boasts of being the sole GSM service provider covering all the 23 circles in the country. In as many as 14 circles in India the company also provides Internet service and landline telephony service.
 
 
Bharti Airtel has even made a submarine cable landing station based at the southern parts of India in Chennai. The cable landing station has been installed to connect the cables between Singapore and Chennai. Through fiber optic cables Bharti Airtel even offers end to end data services to the corporate clients. Bharti Airtel is headed by Sunil Mittal under who's aegis the company has marked a substantial mark in the world telecom industry. Bharti Airtel is headquartered in New Delhi and it has got its regional offices spread all over India.
 
 
Majority of the shares of Bharti Airtel are held by the Bharti Group. The other stakeholders of the company include the telecommunication giant from Singapore SingTel and the UK based telecom major Vodafone. Earlier the company used to offer landline telephony and broadband Internet services under the brand name Touchtel but since 18th September 2004 it has been providing service under the Airtel brand. One of huge impacts on the Indian telecom industry was made by Bharti Airtel when it introduced the Blackberry Wireless Solution in the country during the Month of October 2004.
 
 
The launch of the Blackberry service catered to the needs of the business customers in India in an effective way. The service immensely helped the business consumers to reap the benefits of always-on connectivity service. As per the latest figures (by July 2007) the market capitalization of Bharti Airtel was up to the extent of INR 1670 billion. The total assets of the company is estimated to be about 04.46 $ billion and the company has a market value of about $ 41 billion.
